Reshape Your Nose With Rhinoplasty

Are you self-conscious about your nose? We can fix that! Rhinoplasty procedures, more commonly known as nose jobs, are still one of the most popular cosmetic procedures that plastic surgeons perform. If you’ve been curious about rhinoplasty, we’re here to answer some basic questions about this procedure from preparation to recovery.

Q: How Can I Prepare For My Rhinoplasty Procedure?

A: The most important thing you can do to prepare for your surgery is to manage your expectations. During your consultation with Dr. Ward, he’ll go over the procedure and what you can expect. Physically, it’s recommended that you quit smoking and quit taking any medications that inhibit blood clotting such as ibuprofen or aspirin.

Q: What Can I Expect During The Procedure?

A: The rhinoplasty procedure itself can last between 90 minutes but could also take between 3 and 4 hours. The duration is dependent on how much work needs to be done, or if you have a complex case. It is an outpatient procedure, meaning that you will not have to spend the night in the hospital and are able to go home the same day. The actual incisions used in the procedure may vary depending on what needs to be done. Typically, a small incision is done on the columella of the nose (the soft tissue between your nostrils) as well as inside the nose. These incisions are closed with dissolving sutures, meaning you don’t have to worry about the sutures being removed. They also heal remarkably well, leaving little to no scarring.

Q: What Is The Recovery From This Procedure Like?

A: The recovery period usually lasts about one week. However, sometimes it may take a little longer depending on your case. Bruising on cheeks and bruising that looks like black eyes are common and usually clears up after about a week but could also take longer to heal. All patients experience swelling and that usually goes away after about three months. Swelling can take 12-18 months to resolve, however. If you have any questions following your procedure and your healing, don’t hesitate to call the office.
