What’s Hair Transplantation?

It used to be that when people wanted a hair transplant, a patch of hair would be taken from the back of the scalp, and then transplanted onto the top of the head where there was hair loss. The biggest downfall of this surgery is that many patients would get large scars on the back of their head making it hard for them to sport a really short haircut ever again.

At Ward MD Facial Plastic Surgery, we use a different technique called follicular unit transplantation (FUE) which involves removing and transplanting hair follicles one by one. Additionally, Dr. Ward uses the new NeoGraft technology to give patients even better transplantation results.

How Is It Done?

With follicular unit extraction, Dr. Ward will numb and shave the back of the patients head. After which, he will use NeoGraft technology to extract individual hair follicles (consisting of about 1-4 hairs per follicle) which is a gentle system that ensures the hairs have a better chance of being implanted. Then, Dr. Ward will transplant the hair into the balding part of the scalp which encourages the hair to naturally grow in that area.
