Want To Get Rid Of Your Adam’s Apple? What To Know About Chondrolaryngoplasty

An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but there are some instances in which apples aren’t quite desirable— specifically when it comes to some patients’ Adam’s apple. If you have been undergoing gender reassignment surgery as a male to a female, then you may be interested in minimizing the appearance of your Adam’s apple with a Chondrolaryngoplasty or thyroid cartilage reduction surgery.

What Is Thyroid Reduction Surgery?

During this surgical procedure, one of our certified surgeons at Ward MD Facial Plastic Surgery will reduce the size of your Adam’s apple by shaving down the cartilage through an incision in the throat. Typically, this type of surgery is done as an outpatient procedure, but if it is combined with other procedures, a hospital stay may be required.

What Is Recovery Like?

Just like with any sort of recovery procedure from Ward MD Facial Plastic surgery, we will send you home with detailed recovery instructions after your thyroid reduction surgery. As you rest from surgery, you may be encouraged to gently rub around the incision site to prevent severe scarring. Additionally, you may suffer from some slight bruising and swelling, but we may recommend that you take some NSAIDs to help reduce any inflammation and help with pain management.

The Importance Of A Consultation

Consultation appointments are required for all surgical procedures at Ward MD Facial Plastic Surgery, but a consultation for a chondrolaryngoplasty is especially important because it is typically a part of the gender reassignment process. During your consultation, we will perform a brief physical evaluation and discuss surgical options.
